The Waiheke Local Board has approved $15,000 for the development of a Lightscape Management Plan with the overall goal of Waiheke being named a Dark Sky Park.
In 2017, Aotea Great Barrier was the first island in the world to be designated a Dark Sky Sanctuary by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and with the recent funding towards the Lightscape Management Plan as well as ongoing support from local and international organisations, Waiheke is well on the way to gaining accreditation. • Sophie Boladeras
