At the final Waiheke Local Board meeting for 2018, Rakino Island property owners made a plea for help to stop the ravages of time and tide. 

 A small delegation, including spokesperson Chris Clews and Sue Plimmer, made the journey to the bigger island to ask for funding to save Rakino’s sole community facility – the hall located just above the high tide mark by the wharf at Sandy Bay in the south-eastern corner of the island. • Rob Brennan
