An apartment and office building in Surfdale won multiple awards at the Auckland Registered Master Builders 2010 Auckland regional awards event last Saturday. The building at 14 Hamilton Road, which was designed by Bryce Ardern of Ardern UDB and built by Lite-House, was announced as a gold award winner and overall winner in two categories; the Meridian Sustainable Homes $500,000 to $1million and the New Homes $450,000 to $600,000. It was also awarded gold in the third category for which it was entered, the GIB Living Retail and Business category and won a Lifestyle award, the Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency award. “We’re over the moon, it feels great to have the efforts of the whole team rewarded,” says Clive Matthews, Lite-House construction director. “We were hoping to walk away with something, but had not expected to win two categories outright, so we’re really proud of that.” The competition is structured on two levels, regional and national. Gold, silver and bronze award-winners are determined using a points-based system. These award-winners are announced at 19 regional events held throughout New Zealand during June, July and August.
The top residential gold award and top commercial gold award winners become national finalists, announced in September. These national finalists are then re-judged by a different panel of judges to determine the overall national category winners. The national winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland on 27 November. On top of his Waiheke-based success, Bryce Ardern was also the designer of a substantial renovation project in Tauranga, built by Taylor Developments, which won six awards in its regional final held the previous day, including the PlaceMakers Supreme Award, Registered Master Builders Renovation of the Year. The Lite-House show home at 14 Hamilton Road is open by appointment during winter hours. • |
