Waiheke tamariki had rehearsed for weeks to put on an evening of Matariki celebrations on Wednesday last week at Te Huruhi Hall for the whole Waiheke whanau whanui.
Pita Mahaki kicked things off with a karakia, before Piritahi Childcare took the stage. The bilingual playgroup Te Puna o te Matauranga o te Motu-arai-roa were up next, followed by Waiheke Kindergarten.
The Waiheke Children’s Choir debuted with a waiata sung in harmony, before the three primary schools perfrmed – Waiheke Island Steiner School, Te Huruhi Primary School and Waiheke Primary School.
Waiheke High School’s Piringakau closed off the evening with their wonderful kapa haka routine. • Emma Haas
