Initial work for the Matiatia keyhole trial is complete, but the stop-start saga has hit another speed bump with Auckland Transport confirming the project is delayed – this time over parking spaces.

In November, Waiheke Local Board agreed to give Auckland Transport $50,000 to prepare the ground to move pre-booked tour operators such as wine tours and Fullers’ Explorer buses out of the congested keyhole and into a new area outside the old harbourmasters building. The funding would pay for AT’s recommendations to upgrade part of the gravel car park and create new signs for passengers. • Richard Jones
